Three tips to manage your remote workers

Three tips to manage your remote workers

It is not always easy to transmit information and enthusiasm to your team in the office. Even more difficult when we talk about teleworking!

It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible either. If you have interest in having better and more productive relationships with your remote workers, there is always a way. Here we propose 3 very simple steps for a better long distance communication:

  • Specific tasks. The tasks should be clear and specific for everyone: for the people in the office and for the people outside the office. It is proved that employees prefer to work with very specific tasks. If our message is not very clear, they get lost and frustrated. Just try to synthesize and make sure that your employee got the message by asking. Feedback should be in your day by day.
  • Universal tools. Everyone should have the same access to information, tools and resources. Communication is key here and technology (in the case of teleworking) is our best friend. The field team management applications are the perfect channel of communication and data storage in this way of working. Just be careful when you choose the application. It has to be very easy to use and intuitive. Otherwise it would complicate the day of your team and it would generate more rejection than acceptance.
  • Flexibility: understand that the schedules should be flexible and focus in the results. It is proved that productivity changes the whole time. One day we solved an incredible amount of work and other days we are not able of accomplish one single task. Be flexible with your team and with yourself in order to get better results! Flexibility is also key if you are looking for creativity. How many times did you find the answer to one question in your ten minutes break, in a walk, in the shower, in the morning after a good sleep? Allow your brain (and your team brain) to rest and your creativity will find the answers.
February events and networking from Dublin to Barcelona

February events and networking from Dublin to Barcelona

I can’t complain about this month. It is full of interesting events for Internalia Group Ireland.

Last week, I was in the Dublin Tech Summit.  And to be honest, I was impressed about everything: the quantity and quality of the talks and workshops, the organisation, the positive energy in the environment, the willingness of people to meet, talk and share knowledge!

It’s probably this last point which I most enjoy in this kind of events: the networking experience. Face to face communication is still the king in business. I know that it can sound contradictory to talk about face to face in an event about technology, but I truly believe that technology has to help us to communicate, but never replace real world conversation.

In a networking space like the one in the Dublin Tech Summit ground floor you can find anything: your potential customers or partners, your competitors, business related to your area or business that are not related to your area, but that can amaze you or inspire you. Maybe you find the key person you are looking for, maybe just a good chat.

But the experience of being free of talking, meeting and discovering other people and companies is not comparable to being isolated in your desk!

That’s why I’m counting the days to fly to Barcelona and participate in the 4YFN at Mobile World Congress.

There I’ll be in good company, I’ll be in the Telefonica´s corner and I hope to talk to hundreds of people during four days: the 27th February to the 2nd March.

See you in Barcelona! 🙂

Internalia Group Ireland supporting the role of women in science and technology

Internalia Group Ireland supporting the role of women in science and technology

It is a fact that women have a very small presence in the technology sector. In Ireland, the proportion of women employed in science, research, engineering and technology is less than 25 per cent, according to the Central Statistics Office. The percentage of those who reach the top – founders, chief executives and chief technology officers – is even lower.

The problem starts in the education system. For some reason girls seem to be less interested in science options than boys. No just in Ireland, in every single country.

Is it culture or is it nature? Recent studies affirm that in this type of matters is all about culture. It all starts when we are very small creatures, when we have just one year or even just a few months. It’s all about roles. As a small children, we observe our parents behaving in their roles: daddy is in charge of fixing everything in the house, mummy is in charge of cooking, daddy speaks about technical staff with his friends, and mummy speaks about feelings and relations with her friends…

Then we grow up and we go to secondary school and we have plenty of roles and stereotypes. The stereotype of IT student is very clear: young white male, with poor social skills and of course plastic frames. Needless to say that this stereotypes are very powerful during the adolescence.

When some brave women decide to study technology, achieve to get a job in the sector and develop a career on it, they find out that they are a very small minority.

We think that is important to combat gender stereotypes and impulse the insertion of women in the sector.

In fact, we are going to participate the Dublin Tech Summit this year which is trying to impulse the presence of women: the tickets for women are 50 % off!!!

We really hope to share knowledge and new ideas in this big event and meet a lot of awesome tech women!

Does technology improve communication?

Does technology improve communication?

It is a fact that thanks to the Smartphones, WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tinder, Skype and a very long etcetera our way to communicate with others is quite different.

The dilemma is quite clear. Are this applications helping us in our personal and professional relationships or the opposite?

In the personal life, they can help a lot for example in situations of long distance friendships or relationships, for example by using Skype, which is quite similar to communicate face to face, not totally the same, though. The social networks can help as well to recover old friendships from our school or keep in touch with people who is abroad in other city or country.

The problem arises when the necessity of being on line interrupts our face to face communication. Almost everyone has experienced the feeling of being talking to a friend and none being listened because the friend is checking something on his/her phone. That´s the sort of thing we should try to avoid, basically because it can really damage the quality of relations we have in real life: with our friends, family and colleagues.

About the use of technology at work. It is proved that the use of internal chats and Smart Business Applications in order to make the communication more fluent and effective is key for any kind of business. However, we have the same issue. There is a good and bad use of technology at work. It can be a magnificent channel of communication, but it can’t be a total substitute of face to face communication.

If you have employees working outside the office, on the road, is good to organize meetings with them time to time. If you have staff working abroad, in other country or even other continent, is key to use Skype time to time for having at least some face to face communication.

At Internalia Group Ireland we believe in both forms of communication: through technology and face to face. And how they can work together to make our lives and relationships more successful! 🙂

How the Smart Business Apps can enhance productivity

Everyone loves to be productive. Meeting the targets in the shortest time possible, achieving goals without wasting time.

We must not forget that one of the most important company objectives is to get a committed work team with the business and with the business philosophy. That’s why provide the right tools to work better and efficiently is so important. The Smart Business Apps help the team to work definitely better and faster.

The idea behind this is to empower the employees, offering them flexibility and autonomy.

In fact, nowadays everybody is using apps in their personal life. Basically, apps like WhatsApp makes our family and friends communications easier.

In the same way, the business apps facilitate the team communication, increasing at the same time the sense of belonging the company and the level of social cohesion.

The mobility work applications make easier the workers life, they feel more independent and autonomous. Consequently, the productivity levels will increase thanks to the possibility of reporting their own work in an easy way, organize their own schedules and make lists to do in a few clicks.

How to increase the level of happiness among employees

How to increase the level of happiness among employees

It is common sense. If you have happier employees working for your company, they are going to be more involved and they are going to be more productive.

The question is? Which are the keys to increase the levels of happiness and satisfaction in your company? All surveys point to this factors:

  1. Good work environment
  2. The development of the employee and team skills
  3. The rationalization of working hours and the possibility of teleworking
  4. Reconciliation, transparency and trust
  5. Define goals to achieve
  6. Offer leisure team activities outside the office
  7. Encourage empathy and sense of humor

In Internalia Group Ireland we believe that all of them are critical. But we want to underline the importance and interdependence of trust, transparency, goals to achieve, rationalization of working hours and teleworking. If the company makes an effort to, first of all, define goals to achieve, the employee knows exactly what to do. If the worker knows exactly what to do, he/she can focus in the goals instead of being tied to a chair for X quantity of hours. If the company trust the employee and gives to him/her the responsibility of meeting the targets, he/she can make his own schedule or even have the possibility of teleworking, full or part time.

Our Smart Business Apps help to the company and the workers to organize and coordinate goals to achieve, quantity of work done and quality of the job with very simple tools (tracker, forms, planner, orders) in their mobiles and in their laptops. They are all easy to use, plug and go and very intuitive.

In short, we provide the right tools to improve the company organization and the staff happiness level!
